CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

When she returned to the resort, Levi returned to her room to shower and dress for work. She walked past the pool packed with resort and cruise ship guests and smiled and waved at several women who called to her. The sun was still shining brightly and she had to stand at the door for a minute while her eyes adjusted to the lighting in the bar. She looked around and was amazed at the size of the crowd that had gathered so early in the afternoon.

She and Karen kept the crowd hydrated as NeNe cranked up the music and the dance floor swarmed with dancers. Levi hardly had time to think of her morning as the crowd kept her busy at the bar, but she could not resist looking toward the door each time it opened, searching for Vanessa.

“Waiting on someone special, Romeo?” Karen teased as she caught Levi looking at the door.

“Maybe or maybe not,” Levi teased back.

“Personally, I hope it is that handsome ship’s Captain,” Karen said, causing Levi to blush. “Ah, so it is her,” Karen said. “Great choice,” Karen said, as she picked up a tray of drinks and skated off.

Another hour expired before a group of the ship’s officers entered the bar with Vanessa in the center of the group. She and Killian walked to the bar as the rest went in search of a table.

“Good evening, Captain,” Levi said. “Good to see you again, Killian.”

“Good evening, Levi,” Vanessa and Killian said, in unison.

Levi took the opportunity to give Vanessa the once over as they exchanged greetings. Vanessa looked completely delicious in jeans and a dark blue oxford shirt. She had her sleeves rolled partially up her arms and looked very casual and relaxed. “What can I get you, ladies?” Levi asked.

“For starters, how about a dozen tall Tropical E.’s,” Vanessa said.

“Coming up,” Levi said, as she began to pour the drink and set them on a tray. When she placed the last of the drinks on the tray, Vanessa took one and Killian took the tray back to the table.

“Would you mind if I sit at the bar with you for a while?” Vanessa asked as she handed Levi a credit card.

“Not at all, I would enjoy your company,” Levi said. “This round is on me,” she said.

“Thank you, Levi, but will you start a tab for me?” Vanessa asked. “Trust me, the natives are thirsty and restless, so I am sure they will keep you busy tonight,” she continued.

“Very well,” Levi said, as she scanned Vanessa’s card and returned it to the handsome captain.

Vanessa took a sip from her drink. “I sure hope Nat and Liz are giving you a percentage of this incredible drink’s sale,” she said.

“A quarter each sale,” Levi said, with a grin. “I feel slightly guilty taking a salary from them with the great tips and a cut of the T.E. sales,” she said.

“Don’t feel guilty,” Vanessa said. “You are the hot commodity here, Levi and business
